Eco-Art Project 2012

Swansea and

West Wales

Prosiect Natur i Gelfyddyd, Abertawe yng Ngorllewin Cymru.

A new photographic exhibition of the project was opened on Monday, 4th February at the Environment Centre, Swansea by Helen Howells from Countryside Council for Wales and Artist Tim Davies. Children from Terrace Road, one of the participating schools in the project are also pictured here at the opening.

The Wales based Artist Company Sculpture by the Sea UK/ Cerflunio ar lan y M^or have worked on the project across Wales during 2012. The Eco-Art Project for Schools involved building eight site-specific sculptures or sculptural artworks in the grounds of eight Welsh Primary Schools with the pupils. Sponsored by The Countryside Council for Wales through Welsh Government, Arts Council for Wales through National Lottery, South Hook LNG and with support from the schools, the project proved to be a very inspiring and exciting one for the children and their schools.

Participating Schools, in two parts of Wales, were Portmead Primary, Terrace Road Community School, St. Helen's Primary, YGG Llwynderw in Swansea and Milford Haven Junior School, Orielton Primary School, Pennar Community School and Pembroke Dock Community School in West Wales.
Artists involved in the project included Dave Marchant, Viv Rhule, Amii Marsden and Sara Holden in Swansea and Tina Marie Cunningham, Dave Welton, Clare Ferguson Walker and Jeni Thomas in West Wales. The exhibition photographs were taken by Project Photographer Phil Holden.

Mr. Alun Jones, Head of YGG Llwynderw, said the project in his school "had been a positive experience all round with the children working well as a team. The attention span of all the children was excellent and they gained an awareness of nature. Hopefully the children will remember the importance of art as a recording medium - a way of expression that is different to the norm".

Mae'r cwmni celf Cymreig Sculpture by the Sea UK/ Cerflunio ar lan y môr wedi gweithio ar y prosiect ar hyd a lled Cymru yn ystod 2012. Roedd y Prosiect Eco-gelf i Ysgolion yn cynnwys adeiladu wyth o gerfluniau neu weithiau celf cerfluniol ar safleoedd wyth o Ysgolion Cynradd, a hynny gyda chymorth y disgyblion. Cafodd y prosiect ei noddi gan y Cyngor Cefn Gwlad, Llywodraeth Cymru, Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru trwy'r Loteri Genedlaethol, a South Hook LNG, a'i gefnogi gan yr ysgolion, ac mae wedi bod yn brofiad ysbrydoledig a chyffrous iawn i'r plant a'u hysgolion.

Dyma'r ysgolion a gyfrannodd at y prosiect, mewn dwy ardal yng Nghymru: Ysgol Gynradd Portmead, Ysgol Gynradd Heol Terrace, Ysgol Gynradd Santes Helen ac Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Llwynderw yn Abertawe, ac Ysgol Gynradd Aberdaugleddau, Ysgol Gynradd Orielton, Ysgol Gymunedol Pennar ac Ysgol Gymunedol Doc Penfro yng Ngorllewin Cymru.
Roedd yr arlunwyr a gymerodd ran yn y prosiect yn cynnwys Dave Marchant, Viv Rhule, Amii Marsden a Sara Holden yn Abertawe a Tina Marie Cunningham, Dave Welton, Clare Ferguson Walker a Jeni Thomas yng Ngorllewin Cymru. Phil Holden, Ffotograffydd y Prosiect, a dynnodd ffotograffau'r arddangosfa.

Dywedodd Mr Alun Jones, Prifathro Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Llwynderw, fod y prosiect yn ei ysgol "wedi bod yn brofiad gwerth chweil i bawb, gyda'r plant yn gweithio'n dda fel tîm. Llwyddodd yr holl blant i ganolbwyntio'n rhagorol ac mi gawson nhw ddysgu llawer am fyd natur. Gobeithio y bydd y plant yn cofio pa mor bwysig yw celf fel cyfrwng cofnodi - ffordd o fynegi sy'n wahanol i'r arfer."
